Lamborghini is investing 1.5 billion euros in the electrification of its cars
In a "time of profound change" in the automotive industry, Lamborghini also wants to participate: The Italian sports car manufacturer is investing 1.5 billion euros in the electrification of its cars and in 2023 wants to bring its first hybrid vehicle to the market in series production. By the end of 2024, "the entire model range should be electrified," as the manufacturer explained when it presented its Agenda 2030. Lamborghini has been part of the German Volkswagen Group since 1998.
From 2025 onwards, it should be possible to reduce CO2
emissions by half, according to the company's headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, near Bologna, Italy. Nevertheless, according to the company, it will take until the "second half of the decade" before the first fully electric Lamborghini comes onto the market.
Company boss Stephan Winkelmann spoke of a "change of course" for the company due to a "radically changed context". Lamborghini wants to make its contribution and reduce the environmental impact with specific projects.
Experts assume, however, that luxury and sports car manufacturers will have a harder time keeping up with the trend towards electrification than manufacturers of cars for the mass market. Thanks to its loyal fans, Lamborghini survived the
Corona year 2020 well: Last year, the manufacturer sold 7,430 vehicles - the second-best result after the record year 2019 with 8,205 cars.
