Leader of Turkey's 2020 Citrus Export was Tangerine
The leader of Turkey's 2020 citrus
export was the Tangerine. Tangerine became the most sold among citrus products.
According to the AA correspondent on information obtained from the Mediterranean Exporters' Association data, in 2020, 933 million dollar worth of citrus exports was made from Turkey.
Tangerine, the best-selling citrus product in the said export, increased 26 percent in exports of 347 million 47 thousand dollars in the previous year. Last year, 437 million 696 thousand dollars of foreign currency inflow was provided to the country from 861 thousand 121 tons of tangerine exports.
Citrus exports in 2020 were followed by lemon with 273 million 927 thousand dollars, orange with 128 million 843 thousand dollars and grapefruit with 92 million 591 thousand dollars.
"We Will Achieve a Better Position in the Coming Years"
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA),
President of the National Citrus Council Kemal Kaçmaz stated that citrus exports made a significant contribution to the country's economy.
Kaçmaz indicating that citrus from Turkey has demand from many countries, said:
“The citrus fruits we produce are of high quality and natural. Tangerine is in demand in the foreign market. 2020 citrus exports have been lead by tangerine. We will achieve a better position in the coming years with the expansion in our production areas. The citrus we produce already has a recognition in the market. With our work, we will make our name frequently mentioned in new markets.”
Ahmet Dursun Şahin, President of Mersin Citrus Producers Association, stated that the export of tangerine has increased every year and continued as follows:
“Lemon exports were ahead at the beginning of last year. Later, there was an increase in tangerine exports and this product finished the year at the top. The expansion of our market range positively reflected in exports. Tangerine made both the producers and the exporters happy last year."
