London's Heathrow Airport ended up losing two billion pounds last year
Heathrow Airport, the largest airport in the UK, reported a loss of £ 2 billion last year.
The airport said that the number of passengers it handled fell by 73 percent last year compared to 2019.
The
COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on international travel.
In 2020, Heathrow was used by only 22.1 million passengers, a significant proportion of whom traveled through the airport before restrictions were accepted in March.
In 2019, the airport was used by almost 81 million passengers. The Sky News portal informs about it.
The corona crisis has led to Heathrow Airport reducing staffing and shutting down two terminals, with Terminal 4 unlikely to open before the end of this year.
"Despite the loss of £ 2bn and the drop in passenger numbers to levels not seen since the 1970s, I am very proud of the way our colleagues maintain passenger safety and keep the UK Air Transport Center open to essential supplies,"
said John Holland-Kaye, CEO of the airport.
"We can have hopes for 2021, as Britain is within reach of becoming the first country in the world to safely resume international travel and trade on a large scale," he added.
