Lufthansa plans to reactivate up to 50 additional aircraft
In view of increasing demand, Lufthansa plans to reactivate up to 50 additional aircraft in the coming weeks. "The booking numbers have been growing steadily for eight weeks, with a significant jump up in the past week. That was the strongest seven days since April 2020," said board member Harry Hohmeister of the Funke media group. "For flights in July and August, the demand is ten to eleven times as high as it was four weeks ago." On some routes, demand is even higher than before the corona pandemic.
The number of infections has been falling for some time, and bookings are picking up. Lufthansa therefore wants to reactivate 30 to 50 additional aircraft in the next few weeks. In the corona pandemic, the group mothballed hundreds of machines. "We are very flexible in our planning and can quickly offer enough seats," said Hohmeister. As an exception, Lufthansa could also fly "with a jumbo on a highly sought-after route with 370 passengers instead of a short-haul plane with 180 guests".
At the same time, Hohmeister called on politicians to bring the
digital vaccination certificate to the start by the end of June. "Otherwise the summer travel season will be very cumbersome for customers," he said. The mess of papers with proof of vaccinations, tests or recovery must be over as soon as possible. Almost every country has its own guidelines and requires different documents. "We need an international standard, but in the short term at least uniform rules in Europe."
The EU countries and the EU Parliament recently agreed on details of a Europe-wide certificate for the detection of vaccinations, tests and survived
Covid-19 diseases.
