Markets: US Futures to Open at 1% Low as Virus Spreads
After the biggest daily decline ever seen on Thursday, the exit will not appear close, while US futures will still open low.
Dow 30 fell 267 points while
S&P 500 fell 1.0% and
Nasdaq 100 fell 0.9%.
Among the reports that European investors withdrew from the US markets in the foreign exchange markets, the dollar weakened against the Euro. After seeing the three-week high with $ 1,1047 before, it traded at $ 1.007, down 0.1%. The US dollar also weakened against port currencies like the yen and franc. USD / JPY fell 0.8% to 108.69, while
USD / CHF fell 0.1% to 0.9664.
These moves followed new reports that the
Covid-19 virus has spread worldwide. While the number of cases increased again in South Korea and Iran, Germany and Switzerland took urgent measures to prevent spread. Sub-Saharan Africa also confirmed its first case with a patient in Nigeria.
U.S. crude oil fell by 3% to $ 44.97, the weakest level it has touched since late 2018.
Brent fell below $ 50 before rising to $ 50.72. WTI traded at $ 45.79, down 2.7%.
However, gold returned some of its last gains at $ 1,630.25, down 0.8%.
