Microsoft Starts TikTok Purchase Negotiations
US technology company Microsoft has begun negotiations to buy the US leg of a Chinese company TikTok application.
After the news that Microsoft will purchase the TikTok application of the Chinese firm "ByteDance", the company's shares were valued by about 6 percent.
In a statement made by Microsoft, it was reported that the Company's Chief Executive (CEO) Satya Nadella met with US President Donald Trump. It was stated that Trump's concerns about security and censorship were discussed at the meeting in question. The following statements were used in the announcement that the company started to negotiate with the application after Trump and Nadella's meeting:
"Microsoft values the importance of addressing President's concerns."
In the company's statement, it was stated that negotiations were held to purchase the application's services in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and the right to operate in these countries. These talks are expected to continue until September 15.
TikTok was being discussed to ban
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said they were considering banning Chinese social media apps, including the TikTok app, in early July. Donald Trump, on the other hand, said the following about TikTok's discussions on whether to ban it in the USA due to its ties with the Chinese administration:
We are looking at this subject. We are considering making a decision on this matter. ''
