Minister Elvan evaluated the 2020 budget results.
Treasury and Finance Minister Lütfi Elvan said that they would not compromise fiscal discipline.
Following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's emphasis on financial discipline, Treasury and Finance Minister Lütfi Elvan also emphasized the same issue. Making evaluations about the 2020 budget results on his official Twitter account, Minister Elvan made the following statements:
“Our budget deficit for 2020 was 172.7 billion lira, below the targeted 239.2 billion lira, and we saved 66.5 billion lira. We will never compromise on fiscal discipline, except for the area that will require the fight against the epidemic. Public finance policies will continue in line with inflation policies.”
Stating that they have taken permanent measures to improve the 2021 budget, Minister Elvan stated that they target the budget deficit for 2021 as 3.5 percent. Minister Elvan said, “The macroeconomic policies we envision to implement will ensure a balanced demand and sustainable growth.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who criticized the high interest rates, emphasized the issue of fiscal discipline at the meeting he met with DEIK Board members. Stating that productive areas that will yield results in a short time will be focused on in investments, President Erdoğan announced that they will initiate the savings program that will make public expenditures more efficient.
