More billionaires live in Beijing than in New York now

Thanks to the fact that the coronavirus pandemic in China was stopped relatively quickly, many technology companies supported the shareholders. Even though there are now 100 billionaires in Beijing and 99 in New York, the total fortunes of American billionaires from the "big apple" are still $ 80 billion more than the fortunes of billionaires from China. According to Forbes, Zhang Yiming, who founded the social network TikTok, which falls under the ByteDance company, is the richest Beijing billionaire ever. His assets have doubled in the last year and currently stands at $ 35.6 billion. The richest New Yorker is former mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose assets are around $ 59 billion. The coronavirus pandemic is the main cause of the increase in the rich. In both China and the United States, technology giants have been unusually successful over the past year as more people shop online and look for new ways of entertainment that are closely tied to the online environment. The owners of technology companies and their shareholders could thus benefit from the whole situation. This is also demonstrated by the increase in the wealth of the richest man on the planet, Jeff Bezos, who got rich from $ 64 billion to $ 177 billion last year. China itself, which includes Macao and Hong Kong, has added more rich people to the list last year than any other country in the world. Last year, Forbes added 210 new Chinese rich people to the rankings. China currently has a total of 698 billionaires, catching up with the United States, where there are now 724. Half of the Chinese newcomers made their fortune mainly in the technology sector. Among them is, for example, billionaire Kate Wang, the founder of Relx Technology, which specializes in e-cigarettes. Last year was a record number of new millionaires. According to Forbes, 493 new billionaires were born worldwide, and on average a new rich man is added to the list every 17 hours. In third place, just behind China and the United States, is India, where 140 billionaires currently live.
