Netflix and Amazon Prime Licensed by RTÜK
Netflix and Amazon Prime were licensed. The statement on the subject was made by Radio and Television Supreme Council Chairman Ebubekir Şahin.
Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) President Ebubekir Şahin posted on his Twitter account, “International platforms Netflix and Amazon Prime Video broadcasting on demand via the Internet have been licensed from RTÜK after fulfilling their obligations, just like their local samples.”
In his previous statements, Ebubekir Şahin had said the following:
“Our relations with
Netflix are good. They consider all our warnings in recent years. They are a commercial enterprise after all. While there is a potential profit from Turkey, they do not want to be on the bad side of regulatory agencies. It is natural that we have demands from them regarding respect for our national and moral values or national security.”
Netflix and similar platforms had to apply for a license to RTÜK within a period of one month as of the effective date of the Regulation on the Presentation of Radio, Television and On-Demand Broadcasts published in the Official Gazette on August 1, 2019.
