Netherlands stops flights to England. Following the news that the coronavirus was mutated in the
UK, Netherlands decided to ban flights to the UK.
The Dutch government has decided to ban flights to the country until January 1, 2021, due to the mutation and faster spread of the coronavirus in the UK. The decision was announced by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was shared that the decision taken on the recommendation of the Netherlands State Institute of Health and Environment (RIVM) will remain in effect until 1 January.
In the announcement, it was stated, "In the next few days, other EU countries and the Netherlands will discuss the scope of the measures to be taken to reduce the risk of bringing the new strain of the virus from the UK." It was also reported that similar cases with the "new type of Covid-19 spreading faster" located in the southeast of England were seen in the country in December.
In addition, it was stated that developments were closely monitored and additional restrictions could be imposed on travel by land and sea.
The ban came after
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a group of scientists reported that the new strain discovered in the country was 70 percent more contagious on Saturday.
