Stellantis NV has launched a new agreement for the modernization of production processes and an easier supply chain. With the partnership realized, more than 80 percent of Stellantis' semiconductor chip needs will be met by the company, Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn).

Announced with the introduction of the company's new software STLA Brain as part of the Stellantis Software Day 2021 event, the partnership aims to support Stellantis' attempts to reduce semiconductor complexity and increase efficiency. The partnership, signed through a non-binding memorandum of understanding, aims to design a family of semiconductors for Stellantis and third-party customers.

It will be adapted to cars by 2024

STLA Brain, the software of Stellantis, will be used in 2024 with advanced semiconductor technologies developed by Foxconn. STLA is known as the new electronic and software infrastructure of the four-battery electric vehicle platform, small, medium, large, and frame, to be launched.

The software, which has a fully OTA feature, stands out for its flexibility and efficiency. Within the scope of Foxconn's work, a completely new semiconductor family will be designed for the Stellantis brands to be included in their vehicles.

As tools become more software-defined, additional capabilities and flexibility will be provided. This partnership, which will offer mutual added value beyond Foxconn's knowledge and experience in the semiconductor industry, development capabilities, and supply chain, will also create strong synergies through Stellantis' extensive automotive expertise and scale of volume.

"We aim to develop four new chip families to help simplify the supply chain"

Giving his views on the subject, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said, "Our software-based transformation, our partners in different industries and experts in the field, will support it. We hope to develop four new chip families with Foxconn that will meet more than 80% of our semiconductor needs, allowing us to significantly modernize our components, reduce complexity, and simplify the supply chain.

Young Liu, President and CEO of Foxconn Technology Group, said: "This will also increase our ability to innovate faster and create products and services faster. As a leading global technology company, Foxconn has deep experience in the production of semiconductors and software, the two key components of electric vehicle production. As the growth in the electric vehicle market continues at full speed, we are pleased to share our expertise with Stellantis and to solve long-term supply chain shortcomings together."

Foxconn is one step ahead in consumer electronics

Stellantis, who previously worked with Foxconn, announced the Mobil Drive joint venture last May in this context. With this initiative, it was aimed at developing smart cockpit solutions that offer advanced consumer electronics, HMI interfaces, and advanced services beyond customer expectations.

Foxconn, a multinational company operating in the electronics manufacturing services industry, is known as a company with a long and established history of developing semiconductors and applications in the consumer electronics field.

The company's experience is expected to be reflected in the automotive field with the guidance and demand of a world-class transportation partner. As Foxconn continues to expand its capabilities in electric vehicle manufacturing, these semiconductors will also be used in the Foxconn EV ecosystem.
