Ethiopia is currently closely following the work in the field of blockchain. However, it is working to actively use this technology. Last April, it was learned that Ethiopia agreed with the Cardano team for a blockchain-based system that will be used to measure the performance of students in the country. Nowadays, a group of Ethiopian Bitcoin enthusiasts started a project for the government to accept Bitcoin.
The statement made by the initiative called “Mano Project” included the following statements:
“For the past six months, we have been trying to get the Ethiopian government to consider Bitcoin mining and accumulating Bitcoin to combat growing inequalities and global inflation. We mobilized like-minded Ethiopians to launch the Mano Project. The Mano Project has many phases and plans, and many proposals that could help the National Bank get out of its currency shortage crisis. The project is open source and anyone can participate. We welcome everyone!”
In addition, as a result of the researches, it was underlined that with Ethiopia's mining venture, record earnings of billions of dollars can be achieved with less investment from exports without the participation of third parties. It was also stated that the project aims to publish more detailed plans that the government can implement.
The aforementioned project was also supported by the founder of Twitter and Square,
Jack Dorsey.
Ethiopia, one of the most populated countries in Africa, is the seventh largest economy in Africa with a Gross Domestic Product of $94 billion.
