NFTs.com Domain Name Sold for Record Price!
The sale of the NFTs.com domain is a significant step for the crypto world. Aside from the purchase of Voice.com for $30 million in 2019, no other domain sale in the last decade has come close to this figure.
Jackson Elsegood, Managing Director of
Escrow.com, said of the recent acquisition of NFTS.com, 'one of the largest Web3-related transactions we've seen on the platform. Remarkably, the Voice.com sale was made to a Blockchain company. Also, with this latest purchase, the two largest domain name acquisitions in the last decade have crypto ties. Voice.com is technically the most expensive public domain purchase ever.
The NFTs.com domain sale was conducted anonymously. Plans for the website are therefore unknown. However, the website now has a line of text on the landing page that reads
"Powered by DigitalArtists.com Marketplace". Interpreting this text, it is expected to be a Web3 art platform offering NFT collections and services to artists.
Matt Holden, lead broker on the deal, said: "It was a pleasure working with all parties involved with NFTS.com. For the buyer, a category domain name is relevant to the entire industry. It was also an incredible opportunity to acquire one of the best, if not the best, possible." Due to the links to Web3 and the name of the NFTs.com domain, it is likely to become an NFT marketplace or a hub for offering NFT services. Given the rise of NFTs over the last few years, the domains offer enormous potential. NFTs are an important part of the Web3 ecosystem, changing the way digital asset ownership is viewed. They also support the Metaverse economy, the P2E gaming industry and much more.
