Nissan will reduce its presence in the European market, closing its plant in Ávila

Japanese carmaker Nissan plans to further reduce its presence in the European market and move the sale and production of its cars under the control of a partner in the Renault alliance. This was stated on Friday by the Reuters agency, which referred to the Japanese daily Jomiuri. As part of the restructuring plan, which is the exact opposite of the company's expansion during the period when Carlos Ghosn was in charge, Nissan is minimizing its distribution channels in 30 countries, especially in Eastern Europe. In addition, it plans to close its plant in the Spanish city of Ávila, which should serve as a warehouse. The Japanese company, which expects a record loss for the current business year, is gradually moving from Europe and plans to focus more strongly on the domestic market in the future, as well as the markets of China and the USA. Nissan expects an operating loss of 340 billion yen (2.69 billion euros) for the 2020/2021 business year, which ends on March 31, the highest in history. The company therefore reduces production capacity and the number of models by about a fifth in order to reduce operating costs by about 300 billion yen in three years.
