Nokia Believes Smartphones Are Doomed!
Nokia, one of the first companies to produce a mobile phone system, believes that the Metaverse will lead to the obsolescence of phones. These Metaverse experiences will be supported by the use of virtual reality (VR) headsets and augmented reality glasses.
Nokia, one of the first manufacturers to create a cell phone system, expects the cell phone trend to end with the Metaverse. The company argues that phones will not disappear but will become the second means of communication within 5 years.
There are many aspects of augmented reality devices that need to be developed. Nokia believes that with such devices there will be an increase in user interest. It also believes that this will strengthen the development of the Metaverse. Nishant Batra, Nokia's chief strategy and technology officer, commented on the issue. 'Our belief is that handset devices will be overtaken by a Metaverse experience in the second half of the decade. Widespread adoption of the technology by both companies and consumers is critical. This will be critical for it to be truly successful. It will also depend on the availability of affordable, ergonomic wireless connected VR and AR devices.
In the consumer space, Nokia believes that the rise of this digital-based world will depend on several key factors, including the pressure from companies like Meta to make the Metaverse a trend. Consumers are also more concerned about price and form than institutions.
Prices of the popular Metaverse headphones have risen recently as Meta raised the cost of its basic headset to $400 in July. Also this month, the company introduced a premium option called Quest Pro VR, priced at $1,500. However, the company is exploring different use cases for Metaverse experiences. Depending on the growth of Metaverse, the way it is monetized is likely to change. Monetization of the Metaverse will be a difficult thing to achieve. Industrial adoption will be easier to achieve as some use cases are already being explored. However, Nokia anticipates that all these connections will create security vulnerabilities. This is also why the company is working to secure users in the Metaverse.
