Nord Stream 2 has submitted an application for the building permit
The operator of the controversial Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has submitted an application to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) for immediate implementation of the building permit in German waters. The BSH confirmed receipt of the application on Sunday.
This will now be checked. The BSH spokeswoman did not name a time for the decision. Initially, the broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV reported.
Nord Stream 2 reacted to the earlier contradiction of the German environmental aid (DUH) and the nature conservation association
Germany (Nabu). They are of the opinion that when the BSH decided in January to allow the immediate further construction of the pipeline in German waters, arguments for protection of nature and the climate were ignored.
According to Nord Stream 2, the section in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) where work is still required on the pipeline is 16.5 kilometers long. The BSH came to the conclusion that the remaining stretch ran through the edge of a bird sanctuary. Due to the depth of the water, however, this is said to be "of little significance for certain species of resting birds". In addition, it is partly a frequently traveled area anyway.
