Norwegian Air canceled an order for 88 aircraft from Airbus
Norwegian Air has canceled the order for Airbus aircraft. An airline spokesman said on Friday. These are 88 machines that the company still ordered from Airbus.
Norwegian Air gained protection from creditors in Norway and Ireland last year, where most of the company's assets are registered, and the company said it wanted to emerge from the restructuring process to be leaner and more financially stable.
"We are doing everything we can to get out of the restructuring as a better-off and more competitive company," said
Jacob Schram, CEO of Norwegian Air.
Last year, the company canceled orders for a total of 97 aircraft from the US
Boeing. It also announced that it was seeking compensation for grounding the 737 MAX aircraft and for technical problems with the 787 Dreamliner. It has now canceled orders for 88 narrow-body aircraft from the European manufacturer.
In connection with the termination of contracts with both Airbus and Boeing, the airlines announced depreciation amounting to NOK 4.8 billion (EUR 461.49 million) for the fourth quarter. If the fleet reduction is taken into account, depreciation increases to NOK 12.8 billion.
The company's management added that it will publish a detailed plan for the further development of the company for next week. It currently has 10 aircraft in operation. They want to gradually increase their number, but everything will depend on the development of demand and restrictions in tourism and air transport.
