Over 1 Million Moderna Vaccines to be Recalled in Japan

Over 1 million Moderna vaccines will be recalled in Japan. It turned out that foreign substances were detected in the content of the vaccines.

More than 1.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine produced by Moderna with foreign substances found in Japan will be recalled. US-based pharmaceutical giant Moderna and Takeda, its partner responsible for sales and distribution in Japan, have reached the final decision on vaccines containing foreign substances. According to the decision, more than 1.6 million doses of unused Covid-19 vaccines with foreign substances and contamination in their bottles will be recalled. The Japanese Ministry of Health had announced the previous week that unopened Moderna vaccine vials were contaminated and some vials contained foreign substances. The ministry also announced that the use of approximately 1.6 million doses of Moderna produced in Spain was suspended as a precaution. Takeda, on the other hand, stated that as a safety precaution, they suspended the use of doses in Japan from the same production line in Spain.
