According to the information obtained from the General Directorate of the Turkey Hard Coal Enterprises (TTK) data, the coal produced in Karadon, Kozlu, Üzülmez, Amasra and Armutçuk mines, Catalagzi Thermal Power Plant as well as iron and steel mills, is being sold to citizens by public institutions and organizations. After stopping production on March 30 due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak measures, repairs, maintenance, water lines and gas control were carried out in the furnaces. With the resumption of operations as of June 1, an increase was observed in TTK's coal sales. Thanks to the hard coal produced in the Karadon, Kozlu, Üzülmez, Amasra and Armutçuk mines, the institution generated an income of 267 million 611 thousand 496 liras by selling 617 thousand 540 tons of coal within the January-November period.   There are more than 1 Billion 300 Million Tons of Hard Coal Reserves General Mining Workers Union (GMIS) President Hakan Yeşil gave information to AA correspondent. Yeşil stated that hard coal is sold to factories for the purpose of heating in residences and workplaces, as well as for electrical energy, iron and steel, tea and sugar production. Stating that there are more than 1 billion 300 million tons of hard coal reserves under the ground, Yeşil used the following statements: “We work with our full power to extract this reserve. I believe that we made the best effort even if we are prevented by this pandemic process, because we need coal today. Coal in Zonguldak which is nowhere else in Turkey is indispensable for steel production, we know very well that it is. Therefore, we want to produce hard coal under any condition and bring it to the country's economy.” Yeşil, stating that most of Turkey’s coal needs are being met from sources within the country, and they are working with excitement and enthusiasm to protect that balance, said, "We have been trying to meet the coking coal requirement of our country's iron and steel industry for many years. 631,200 tons of salable coal were produced in 11 months of this year. The institution sold 617,540 tons of it. There is coal in our stocks now."
