Tensions between the two countries are rising with the Coronavirus outbreak. The United States and China have announced they will reconsider the phase one trade agreement.
Behind the scenes of rising tensions between the United States and China in recent days, senior U.S. and Chinese officials said they intended to reconsider the trade deal between the countries, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to the matter.
Talks on the phase one agreement, jointly conducted by Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, will take place on August 15 or near that date, six months after the agreement goes into effect.
The White House and the U.S. Trade Representative's office declined to comment on the deal, while news of plans for the talks appeared on Wall Street on Tuesday.
U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier stated that the agreement with China, due to its role in the coronavirus outbreak, was no longer as important to him as it used to be.
