Petrol Ofisi CEO Selim Şiper: “a 5 to 10 Percent Contraction in Diesel”
Selim Şiper, CEO of Petrol Ofisi, the leader of Turkey's fuel, lubricants and chemicals markets, said, "It seems likely that there will be a 5 to 10 percent contraction in diesel by the end of the year." Şiper said, "According to our estimation, 20 percent of auto gas vehicles are parked."
Petrol Ofisi CEO Selim Şiper said, “I do not anticipate that there will be a problem when looking at the connections made. When we look at the period after the holiday, consumption started to decrease, so I don't think we will have any demand or supply-side problems. Besides, I think we may encounter some difficulties in obtaining the money required for the payment. This is both due to the rise in the exchange rate and we foresee that we are approaching critical periods in terms of foreign exchange availability. Unfortunately, we often have to make upward price adjustments due to the rise in product prices in the world and the inability to curb the dollar, and when we look at it from today, there does not seem to be much of an end to it."
"Profit is set aside, we have to save the day"
He also added, “Profitability is out of the question, we have to turn the wheel and save the day. When we look at the integrated margin, that is, the share divided between the station and the distribution company, the final pump price was around 12 percent in the past, but now this rate has decreased to 5 and a half percent. We can only do this in parallel with inflation, but the costs have increased even more. Due to the very high increase in the TL-denominated value of these products, an enormous working capital load has begun both at the stations and at the distribution companies.”
Referring to aviation fuels, Şiper said, “It is essential that these increases are reflected in prices. It is not possible to deal with it otherwise.”
Petrol Ofisi CEO Selim Şiper said, “The whole world is at the mercy of
oil-producing countries. A contraction will begin on the consumption side as of this month. It seems likely that there will be a contraction of between 5 and 10 percent in diesel by the end of the year. It would not be correct to say the same for gasoline. With the increasing number of vehicles, a 5 percent growth in gasoline can be realized. According to our estimation, 20 percent of auto gas vehicles are parked.”
