The new coronavirus pandemic has plunged the aviation sector into a severe crisis. This was also reflected in the results of airports, including Václav Havel Airport in Prague. Almost 80% fewer passengers passed through its gates last year.
According to information from the novinky.cz server, in 2020 Prague Airport handled a total of 3,665,871 passengers. Compared to 2019, this means a decrease of 79%.
The busiest month was the first of them, in which the
pandemic has not yet been able to manifest itself in full force. In January, the airport handled more than 1.05 million passengers.
In January, as well as in February last year, there were direct flights from Prague to 111 cities around the world. In the following months, the supply of destinations was reduced and changed depending on the epidemiological situation.
As for takeoffs and landings, a total of 54,163 took place at Prague Airport last year. Compared to 2019, their number decreased by 65%.
Thanks to the improvement of the situation and the partial relaxation of the measures, the number of
passengers increased in the summer months. In July and August, approximately 600,000 passengers used the airport's services.
