Prosecutors have challenged the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline
U.S. Attorney General's 21 state prosecutors filed a lawsuit against President Joe Biden's decision to cancel construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
According to states,
Biden exceeded his powers when he withdrew permission for a controversial project on the first day of his office in the White House.
As the pipeline would cross several U.S. states, Congress should have the final say in deciding on its construction, according to a lawsuit filed in the Texas District Court.
Democratic senators Joe Manchin of
West Virginia and Jon Tester of Montana also called Biden to reverse the decision.
The Keystone XL pipeline was to transport oil from the Canadian province of Alberta to Nebraska.
Work on the project was suspended, but resumed in 2019 as President Donald Trump overturned a decision by his predecessor, Barack Obama, who in 2015 vetoed a law approving construction.
Environmentalists and Native American organizations have been fighting the pipeline for more than a decade.
