Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to the news from the South China Morning Post, Putin, who went to Beijing, the capital of China, for the Beijing Winter Olympics, met with his Chinese counterpart Xi.
In the televised meeting of the leaders before the opening of the Olympic Games, Putin stated that China and Russia support each other in many areas, from foreign relations to economic development.
Stating that natural gas supplies from Russia to China will increase energy cooperation between the two countries, Putin described Moscow's ties with Beijing as "unprecedented".
Putin said, "Our relationship as two countries is truly unprecedented in terms of the spirit of friendship and strategic partnership, and bilateral relations are an example of good relations that facilitate mutual development and also help support each other in development."
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will energize China-Russia relations.
On the other hand, before the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, noted that both countries are against the formation of a "bloc" that wants to trigger conflict in the Asia-Pacific.
This visit by Putin is also his first visit to China since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held February 4–24, hosted by Beijing, the capital of China.
