According to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), record levels were reached in renewable energy capacity last year, largely with Chinese and US based investments. The Abu Dhabi-based institution stated that 82 percent of the renewable power plants established in 2020 are wind and solar energy, and China has increased its renewable energy capacity by 139 GW. Also, according to the report, while renewable energy capacity has increased, fossil fuel production has decreased in Europe, North America, Turkey and Russia.
