Remdesivir Became the First Drug to Receive FDA Approval
Remdesivir was the first drug to receive FDA approval. According to the last minute information, the FDA gave official approval for Gilead's remdesivirine to be used in combating the coronavirus outbreak.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially approved the use of the antiviral drug remdesivir, produced by Gilead Science, in the treatment of coronavirus.
The drug, which the regulators gave permission for emergency use at the beginning of 2020, was a treatment used in hospitalized coronavirus patients during the epidemic. The officially approved drug was also used in the treatment of US President Donald Trump.
In Gilead's statement, "Veklury (remdesivir) is the first and only
Covid-19 treatment approved in the USA." statements took place.
The supply of the drug was limited in the first place, but it is now widely used in hospitals in the USA as a result of the rapid increase in manufacturing capacity.
On the other hand, there is no evidence that the drug reduces the loss of life from coronavirus. The drug failed to reduce the loss of life in the trial conducted by the World Health Organization (
WHO), according to leading results published last week.
Gilead's stocks, which are traded in the US, closed on Thursday with 4.1 percent gains. Post-market transactions rose 7.10 percent.
