Results of the Turk-Is Hunger Threshold Research

The results of the Turk-Is hunger threshold research were determined. Accordingly, the hunger limit of the family of four was 2 thousand 652 lira.

Turkish Confederation of Trade Unions (Turk-Is) published the results of January 2021 of the "Hunger and Poverty Line Survey", which is conducted every month to determine the livelihood conditions of employees and the effects of price changes in basic necessities on the family budget. The research conducted by Türk-İş revealed that the "hunger limit", which means the amount of food expenditure that a family of four must spend in order to have a healthy, balanced and adequate diet, is 2 thousand 652 TL. The "poverty line", which means the total amount of other expenses that must be made for needs such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education and health, was calculated as 8 thousand 638 TL. The "cost of living" of a single employee was recorded as 3,222 lira per month. The minimum amount of food spending for a family of four living in Ankara increased by 2.39 percent compared to the previous month. While the increase in prices has reached 2.39 percent since the first month of the year, the rate of increase in food inflation for the last twelve months has been recorded as 19.48 percent.   Vegetable and Fruit Prices Decreased The high rate of increase in the milk, yoghurt and cheese group was the main reason for the increase in kitchen expenditure. While the prices of minced meat, cubed and offal products remained unchanged, the price of chicken increased. Fish prices increased slightly compared to last month. While the price of horse mackerel increased after the ban on anchovy hunting, the price of anchovy fell as it returned to the stalls. The prices of other fish varieties remained generally the same. The price increase seen in eggs last month fell this month and was calculated as 0.94 TL per piece. Vegetable and fruit prices fell on average in January. The curfew on the weekend played a role in this decline. The average kilogram price of fresh vegetables and fruits fell from 7.19 lira to 6.62 lira this month. While the average vegetable kilogram price was 6.68 lira this month, the average fruit price was calculated as 6.50 lira. There was no change in the price of bread. While the prices of legumes did not change this month, the prices of pasta, flour and semolina increased. The price of butter, margarine, olive oil and sunflower oil increased. The price of 1 liter of sunflower reached 17.90 lira. In addition to tea and lime, honey, jam, sugar and salt and tomato paste were listed as food products whose prices did not change in January, an increase was observed in the price of molasses.
