Ryanair Is Canceling All Flights In The Winter Season In Düsseldorf
Europe's largest low-cost airline Ryanair is canceling all flights in the winter season in Düsseldorf during the Corona crisis and closing its base there. All Ryanair flights to and from Düsseldorf after October 24 were canceled, the airline said on Wednesday. Passengers should receive a full refund in the coming days.
The airline said that due to the high fees and prices of the airport and the handler, as well as competition from the state-funded Lufthansa, Ryanair could not operate profitably in Düsseldorf. This is because low ticket prices would have to be offered in order to stimulate demand during the Corona crisis.
With the withdrawal of seven A320 aircraft from sister company Laudamotion, 200 jobs were lost. Pilots and flight attendants were informed about this on Wednesday. "The Ryanair Group will try to find new basic options for the Düsseldorf aircraft, hopefully for the summer season 2021," it said. Ryanair had already closed the base in Stuttgart in September.
