Sabiha Gökçen Hosted 4.2 Million Passengers In The First Quarter

Sabiha Gökçen International Airport hosted 4.2 million passengers in the first quarter. 1.2 million of them were international passengers.

According to the statement made by the airport terminal operator ISG, Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which lost 55 percent of its passengers in 2020 due to coronavirus, started to recover in the number of passengers in 2021. Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which hosted approximately 1.3 million passengers each in January and February, increased the number of passengers to 1.6 million in March. In this way, the total number of passengers reached 4.2 million in the first quarter of the year.

Flights were Interrupted in March 2020

The number of passengers at the airport has surpassed the previous year for the first time since June 2020, when flights reopened. Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which suspended flights on March 28, 2020, reached 1.5 million passengers at the end of March last year. The airport hosted 1.6 million passengers in the same month of this year. Thus, in March alone, there was a 7 percent increase compared to last year. In the first 3 months of 2021, the number of passengers decreased by 40 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During the period in question, the number of domestic passengers was recorded as 3 million and the number of international passengers as 1.2 million. The recovery in March was reflected in the number of flights as a recovery. In the January-March period of this year, a total of 30 thousand 740 flights took place at the airport. Last year, the number of flights was recorded as 46,775 in the first 3 months. According to the data, the number of flights decreased by 34 percent in the first 3 months. On the basis of March alone, there was a 3 percent increase in the number of flights compared to the said period of last year.
