Scottish fishermen have stopped exporting to the EU due to bureaucracy after Brexit
Many Scottish fishermen have stopped exporting to the European Union (EU) due to bureaucracy after Brexit, which has extended their delivery times and increased export costs.
Fish exporters in
Scotland have also warned that their export to Europe may become "unfeasible" following the introduction of health certificates, customs declarations and other documents.
Several export business owners said they tried to send small shipments of fish to
France and Spain this week to test the new systems. However, obtaining a health certificate in Scotland took 5 hours, which is the basic document needed to apply for other customs documents.
In the first working week after Brexit, in the past only one-day deliveries lasted three or more days, if they crossed the border at all.
At the same time, several Scottish companies cannot say with certainty where their cargo is located. The fish exporters trade group therefore told fishermen to stop fishing for export in the meantime.
