TSB has announced that suspicious transactions have been detected on some cryptocurrency exchanges. According to the news of The Times, TSB in the UK is preparing to ban the transactions to cryptocurrency exchanges of its 5 million customers.
Allegedly Deceived Customers
As a result of TSB's investigations, it was determined that 849 customers were defrauded through fake wallets between March 14 and April 15. It was determined that most of the transactions were made through Binance, which is registered in the Cayman Islands. On top of that, research on Binance was focused on, citing weak security controls. Although TSB tried to contact Binance, this effort was unsuccessful. On the other hand, it was informed that sending money to the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken will also be prohibited.
It has also been announced that the number of fraudsters has increased due to advertisements for getting rich quick in the UK. It was stated that the British, who were defrauded of 135.1 million pounds over the banking system last year, suffered from the situation.
Binance Made a Statement Regarding the Allegations
Binance, the crypto exchange that TSB said it could not communicate with, made a statement on the subject. A Binance spokesperson said, "Binance is very serious about protecting its users from fraud. When we become aware of these allegations, we take action and work with law enforcement. We have an excellent track record in this regard."
Steven Christie, Head of Global Compliance at Kraken, said: "We categorically reject the claim that Kraken is not responding to calls for help regarding fraudulent incidents. Kraken has responded to more than 1,000 different requests from law enforcement in 2020."
