Social Media- Internet blockade observatory NetBlocks stated that Facebook (NASDAQ: FB), WhatsApp and Instagram apps were restricted in Ethiopia early on Monday.
“Saying that the restriction in Ethiopia was lifted again during the day, NetBlocks stated that they continue to monitor the event.”
NetBlocks CEO Alp Toker told Reuters that they observed some restrictions in six locations in Ethiopia.
Shumete Gizaw, Head of Ethiopia's Information Network Service Agency, and Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of the state-run telecommunications monopoly Ethio Telecom, did not answer questions about the news in question.
Stating that platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, LinkedIn and Reddit are available, Toker stated that users who have access to VPN services can bypass restrictions.
