Some airlines are currently reporting a severe shortage of pilots

Some airlines are currently reporting a severe shortage of pilots and are trying to train them quickly due to the higher interest in travel. However, it encounters insufficient capacity of the simulators, due to which some airlines have to cancel already planned flights. Flight simulators from Atlanta to Miami are fully loaded. The CNBC portal informed about it. Demand for travel is growing again, especially in the United States. Many airlines report a higher number of passengers carried, and US domestic traffic has almost returned to the level of 2019. Business trips are also becoming more frequent. The current interest in air travel on the part of passengers has thus opened up the need for massive training of pilots. Over the past year, more than forty airlines around the world have either completely stopped or at least suspended their operations. Passenger air transport fell by as much as two-thirds. The number of international flights fell by 68 percent, and the number of domestic flights by 40 percent. The pilots also did not complete enough flights to maintain pilot status despite the covid-19 pandemic. Airlines also responded to the crisis by firing their pilots. Now, however, the situation is completely different. Dates on flight simulators are booked for several weeks in advance. Pilot training for other types of aircraft takes weeks, and as a result, some airlines are unable to respond to higher demand for travel. "The pandemic was an existential threat to airlines. However, the return to travel came much earlier than originally expected, "Bryan Terry of Deloitte told CNBC. According to experts, each airline should have a sufficient number of pilots to keep air traffic operational. Their lack also means that airlines have fewer advances. "A number of airlines with a small number of reserve pilots have entered the summer months," Casey Murray, president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, told CNBC. According to the original plans, the demand for passenger air transport was to return to the level before the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic in 2024 at the earliest. However, global vaccinations and the current more relaxed restrictions by a number of countries around the world have refuted some analysts' estimates, and some airlines have to cancel flights due to a lack of staff. It is, for example, the American Airlines, which reduced its flight schedule by up to 1% by mid-July, which is about one thousand flights. According to Southwest, the number of passengers carried during this summer approached in the summer of 2019.
