Some US Congressmen are investing in Bitcoin. In the US, six congressmen, two of whom are senators, hold Bitcoin.
The data of the
BitcoinPoliticians.org project, started by Jameson Lopp, co-founder of the Bitcoin wallet startup Casa, shows that Bitcoin has become an asset that politicians have started to prefer.
According to the research, lawmakers investing in Bitcoin; Cynthia Lummis, Michael McCaul, Bary Moore, Patrick Toomey, Jefferson Van Drew and Michael Waltz. Senator Lummis, known for his support of cryptocurrencies, has BTC worth between 100 and 250 thousand dollars. Jefferson Van Drew owns Grayscale Bitcoin fund shares in the $100 to $250,000 range. Waltz says he has between $30 and $100,000 in
BTC, while the others' investments are on a smaller scale. For example, Toomey, who is also known as a cryptocurrency supporter like Lummis, has investments in Grayscale's Bitcoin and Ether funds, in the range of 2 to 30 thousand dollars.
In addition, the fact that all members of Congress and the House of Representatives who buy Bitcoin are republicans is also prominent.
Lummis and Toomey gained attention especially during discussions of the crypto tax provision included in the $1 trillion infrastructure bill. Two senators argued that the provision in question was an obstacle to innovation and tried to prevent it from being passed by the Senate. Toomey said, "This is a great opportunity for the United States."
