Spain reduced its growth expectations for 2021. The Spanish government will lower its growth forecast for 2021 due to the worsening of the coronavirus epidemic.
Interviewing Bloomberg, Economy Minister Nadia Calvino stated that with the increase in coronavirus cases, restrictions were applied in some regions, and this situation would also suppress the first quarter growth. Calvino said, "Therefore, we will revise our estimates downwards for this year."
Calvino stated that they previously expected growth of about 7 percent for 2021, but now it may be a lower number. Despite this, Economy Minister Calvino emphasized that the economic indicators started to improve in direct proportion to the government estimates in March and said that "all indicators are getting better". The minister also stated that the vaccination of about 70 percent of the country's population will end by the summer.
The
Bank of Spain stated last month that the growth forecast for this year was 6 percent in the base scenarios.
France, which took a new national closure decision within the scope of the measures taken in the fight against coronavirus, recently pulled its growth expectation for 2021 to 5 percent. The country had contracted 8.1 percent in 2020.
