Sparkpool has Announced That It Will Not Serve Chinese Miners
Mining pool Sparkpool has announced that it will not serve Chinese miners after recent statements from China.
The world's largest Ethereum mining pool has announced that it will stop serving miners located in
China.
Hangzhou-based
Sparkpool announced on September 24 that the decision was made in response to the latest regulatory policy statements from China, saying it will release more details about the suspension.
The news comes after the People's Bank of China and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released statements regarding further restrictions on cryptocurrency trading and mining activities.
Sparkpool is currently the largest Ethereum mining pool based on real-time hash rate as of press time, accounting for around 20% of the network's total and closely followed by Ethermine.
In a statement signed in early September and released on September 24, the NDRC, China's central macroeconomic planning agency, outlined detailed measures on how to apply pressure to mining at the provincial and municipal levels.
One of the few specific measures identified involves cryptocurrency mining. It is also stated that the guide serves as a high-level legal basis for provincial and municipal governments to take action on which sectors should be promoted, retained and eliminated.
