Steve Wozniak is founding a new space company
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has announced that he is founding a new space company. Unlike the competition, where there are plans for space tourism or colonization of Mars, Wozniak is likely to focus on removing the remnants of satellites and other space "waste" in orbit.
Wozniak announced on his
Twitter this week that a private space company is emerging that is "different from everyone else." He added a video to the article, the description of which shows that a company called Privateer Space is working to make the universe safe and accessible. It also contains information that the company was founded by Wozniak together with engineer Alex Fielding, with whom he has worked in the past.
However, this ends the list of information about the Privateer project. The video itself is a mere compilation of shots from the history of cosmonautics and images of people pointing to the sky, accompanied by a commentary on the need for humanity to work together. The company's website states that it is currently operating in "secret mode".
However, Gizmodo magazine drew attention to a August press release from Desktop Metal, which quotes Wozniak as saying that they are co-founders of a "new satellite company focused on monitoring and cleaning objects in space." Desktop Metal focuses on 3D printing of titanium structures, and Wozniak states in a company document that the company intends to use the technology in its satellites.
Focusing on space cleaning makes sense in the pursuit of "safe space." Operation in orbit will increase due to the activities of technology companies of billionaires Jeff Bezos, Elon Musek and Richard Branson. Musk's company SpaceX, whose long-term plan is to colonize Mars, sent a civilian crew into orbit on Thursday. In July, Bezos went on a space trip a few days after Branson did so.
