The stock market started the day with a decrease on January 5. BIST 100 index in
Borsa Istanbul decreased 0.41 percent and started the day with 1.489.32 points.
At the beginning of the day, the BIST 100 index, which lost 6,11 points and 0.41 percent compared to the previous close, fell to 1,489.32 points.
At the opening, the banking index lost 0.46 percent, while the holding index fell 0.49 percent. Among the industry indices, sports gained the most with 0.34 percent, while the biggest loss was on forest, paper and printing with 1.17 percent.
Despite the above-expected inflation data yesterday and manufacturing industry PMI data fell in December compared to the previous month, the BIST 100 index increased by 1.27 percent and closed at an all-time high with 1,495.43 points. The highest level reached by the index rose to 1,500.01 points.
Stating that the second round of Senate elections to be held in the US state of Georgia are carefully monitored in global markets today, analysts noted that taking new measures, especially in the UK, reduced the global risk appetite due to the increase in new types of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases all over the world.
It was stated that the ongoing downward trend in foreign exchange rates supports the stock markets today, and real effective exchange rate data as well as ISM manufacturing industry Purchasing Managers Index in the USA and retail sales and unemployment data in Germany are among the data to be monitored.
In technical terms, analysts stated that 1.500 and 1.520 levels could become resistance and 1.470 and 1.450 points could be the support in the
BIST 100 index.
