Sunak Does Not Support The Pension Increase
Sunak does not support the pension increase. British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak did not take kindly to the increase.
According to the news of the
Sunday Times, it was stated that Minister Sunak, unlike Prime Minister Boris Johnson, did not support the planned increase of approximately 6 percent in pension payments in order to reduce social transfer expenditures.
In the 2019 election campaign, the Conservative Party promised to increase pensions by 2.5 percent, or over the annual inflation rate, every year.
Due to the budget deficits that occurred during the coronavirus epidemic, annual wages in the three months until April increased by 5.6 percent. It is estimated that this increase will create an additional 4 billion pounds ($5.5 billion) annual expense to the state for pensions in the coming periods.
The Sunday Times reported that the Ministry of Finance wanted to break the link between pensions and wages for a year. In the news in question, an unnamed minister said, "The retirees will be in extremely good shape. It is not that difficult politically to fix it for a year."
In addition, the news also stated that Minister Sunak is concerned about the potential cost of 5 billion pounds per year of the pension planin the
UK, which will be discussed this week.
