Superyacht sales, which reached record levels last year, do not seem to lose pace despite rising prices and decreasing supply in the turbulent new year in financial markets.

According to the records of maritime data firm Vessels Value, 887 superyachts were sold in 2021. This figure means an increase of 87% compared to the previous year and a double increase compared to 2019.

Jeff Bezos, who has a fortune of $174.7 billion according to the Bloomberg billionaire index, is waiting for the delivery of his 127-meter sailboat.

The boat is awaiting final construction at a Dutch shipyard to be delivered. It is known that Steven Spielberg, who sold his previous yacht for $ 158 million, also ordered his new yacht. The price of the boat that the famous director bought last November was not disclosed.

Low-interest rates and rising markets have allowed the world's 500 richest people to add $1 trillion to their wealth. According to Vessels Value, the big gains and the increase in demand based on individual production due to Covid-19 are the main reasons for the sharp increase in prices.

There are not enough yachts to sell on the market

Low loan rates also helped buy social distancing, according to an investment advisor. Rising interest rates and volatile stock markets are also not expected to lower prices, at least for the next few months, due to the lack of boats available for sale.

While commenting on the current market, Sam Tucker, Superyacht Director of Vessels Value, said, "Simply, there are not enough boats to sell on the market. Shipyards are working to their limit and each new boat takes longer to order. Looking on the bright side, the boats in the hands of yacht owners are getting more and more valuable.

Superyachts are not generally seen as investment vehicles. Wear and annual operating costs are very high. The annual cost of a yacht is approximately 10 percent of its value, but this year, yacht values have increased by 5 to 8 percent due to the tight market. Tucker said, "It's a great year to own a yacht."
