Tata Steel will help to the families of workers who have died of covid-19
Indian multinational steel company Tata Steel has promised to pay money to the families of workers who have died of covid-19 in recent months. The company will pay the salary to the survivors until the dead employees should retire. Tata Steel has also committed to cover the cost of training the descendants of these deceased employees.
Last week, at least 300,000 Indians died of covid-19. However, experts claim that this number is even higher in reality. The BBC reported on it.
The loss of life did not escape the employees of the multinational steel giant. "Tata Steel deeply regrets the losses of our beloved employees, who have succumbed to severe coronavirus disease in recent months," the company said in an official statement.
Tata Steel is one of the most important employers in India. The company's history dates back to 1907 and is based in
Mumbai. For example, bearings, pipes, but also locomotives are manufactured here. It currently employs more than 32,000 people worldwide.
In recent days, other Indian companies have announced similar assistance. These include the multinational Oyo Rooms chain, which operates in India in the field of hotels and hospitality. It will provide the families of employees with an eight-month salary and for five years the company will also support the education of minors. The glass manufacturer Borosil will then pay the survivors the money, which will correspond to the salary for two full calendar years.
A second wave of pandemics has ravaged
India's entire healthcare system in recent weeks. Even at the end of May, many hospitals still reject patients. The necessary medicines are missing here, crematoria do not manage to burn the bodies of the deceased. Last week, along with the United States and Brazil, most of the world's people died here. Throughout the pandemic, more than 26 million people became infected with coronavirus.
