Tesla Announces Purchase of $ 1.5 Billion Bitcoin
Tesla (TSLA) announced on Monday (today) its purchase of $ 1.5 billion worth of bitcoin as a result of the company's investment policy.
Tesla said, "In January 2021, we updated our investment policy to maintain sufficient operating liquidity, further diversify our cash return and give us more flexibility." "As part of the policy duly approved by our Board of Directors' Audit Committee, we said we could invest some of the cash in the future in digital assets, gold bullion, gold exchange mutual funds and certain alternative reserve assets. We can acquire or hold digital assets in the short or long term." Tesla said they could begin to accept payments with Bitcoin for their products in the "near future" with some restrictions. Bitcoin prices (BTC-USD) rose above $ 42,000, gaining more than 8 percent after the statement was published.
