Tesla is withdrawing about 285,000 electric cars in China

Electric car manufacturer Tesla is withdrawing about 285,000 electric cars in China due to a cruise control error. This was stated on Saturday by the Chinese authorities, according to which the cruise control function may accidentally activate and cause a sudden acceleration of cars, which poses a safety risk. A company on the Chinese Weibo platform said in a customer report that the potential security risks are in extreme cases. The Chinese State Market Regulatory Authority said that Tesla's Chinese subsidiaries contacted it "a few days ago" and requested a withdrawal from the market. This includes 211,256 Model 3 sedans and 38,599 Model Y compact crossover SUVs built in China, as well as 35,665 imported Models 3. The vehicles were manufactured between December 2019 and June 2021. The regulator said that Tesla plans to improve the remote cruise control software. The company will contact the owners of electric cars that cannot be repaired remotely. Tesla Inc., based in Palo Alto, California, did not respond to AP's requests for comment. The company has already faced several challenges in China, including allegations of customer abuse. In April, a customer protested at a car show that faulty brakes on her family's Tesla electric car led to a car accident that left her parents in the hospital. Tesla initially blamed the driver, but later issued a public apology to the customer and undertook to learn from the incident.
