In the statement made by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA), it was reported that Tesla recalled more than 475,000 vehicles due to safety issues.
The company says it will recall 356,309 Model 3 vehicles that were produced between 2017 and 2020 because of a cable harness for the rear-view camera that can potentially become damaged by the normal opening and closing of the trunk. The cable harness could then prevent the rear image from showing.
119,009 of Tesla’s Model S cars are also being recalled due to a faulty front-trunk latch that might cause the front hood to suddenly open, obstructing the driver’s view, according to an NHTSA statement. Tesla says it will repair both issues at no cost to the owners of the vehicles.
In the statement, it was noted that Tesla had received 2,301 warranty action requests and 601 field reports regarding these defects.
Vehicles will also be recalled in China
Tesla Inc. will recall 19,697 vehicles imported from the model S series, 35,836 vehicles imported from the model 3 series, and 144,208 vehicles manufactured in China from the model 3 series.
According to a statement on the website of China's State Market Regulatory Authority, Tesla is recalling these electric vehicles due to possible safety risks.
