Tesla unveils its supercomputer!
Dojo is Tesla's own custom supercomputing platform built from the ground up to analyze AI machine learning and more specifically using video data from its fleet of vehicles. The automaker already has a large NVIDIA GPU-based supercomputer, one of the most powerful in the world, but the new Dojo uses custom-made computer chips and all infrastructure designed by Tesla.
Tesla's new supercomputer can't run on the power grid
Tesla introduced its new supercomputer Dojo at the AI Day event held the other day. The company also gave details about its AI-powered computer last year. But last year, we could not see the computer in the flesh, instead some of its hardware was shared with us.
Today, Tesla unveiled its new Dojo supercomputer and the progress made over the past year. The custom-made supercomputer is described as an important step in analyzing images from Tesla-branded vehicles. In this way, the company's autonomous vehicle studies are expected to accelerate.
Tesla says it has made significant progress since last year. The company claimed that a single Dojo processor can do what 6 GPUs can do. It was also stated that costs will decrease thanks to the new computer.
The company also claims that a single Dojo processor group is equivalent to 3 to 4 fully loaded supercomputer racks. Tesla will be able to integrate the host interface directly into the system tray to create a large full mainframe. Tesla says it can fit two of these system trays with the mainframe assembly into a single Dojo cabinet.
The electric carmaker continues to develop and test the infrastructure needed to create the first "Dojo Exapod". The company said it had to develop its own high-powered cooling and power systems to power the Dojo cabins. Because when the system was first tested, it was noted that the transformer supplying electricity to the region could not carry the load.
Tesla plans to complete the Dojo Exapod with Tesla in the first quarter of 2023.
