The American carmaker Tesla will enter the Indian market next year. This was indicated on Friday by the head of the company, Elon Musk.
It would thus enter the lucrative market at a time when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is increasingly focusing on promoting the use and production of electric vehicles.
Asked on Twitter if he knew when Tesla would enter the Indian market, Musk said, "Definitely next year." Back in March last year, he said that he would like to come to India that year. "If we don't succeed, we will definitely enter next year," Musk said last year.
However, a certain shift has already taken place. During September, Indian media reported that Tesla had begun preliminary talks with local authorities about setting up a research and innovation center in Bangalore.
The large Indian car market is lucrative, but it suffered last year as a result of declining demand, most recently damaged by a new coronavirus pandemic. The carmakers are now expecting help from the Indian government.
