Thanks to the pandemic, Shanghai has become the largest transport hub in the world
London is no longer the adjective "largest transport hub in the world". The coronavirus pandemic and its associated travel restrictions across the planet have caused Chinese Shanghai to take this honor from the British capital.
The International Air Transport Association recorded a 67% decrease in London connectivity.
While last September, the four largest hubs in air travel were London, Shanghai, New York and Beijing, twelve months later, the most dominant quartet were exclusively Chinese cities - Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
London dropped to 8th place year-on-year and
New York is not even in the top ten at the moment. Unlike China, which also has the city of Shenzhen at the 6th place, the rest of Asia is not doing so well, as the pandemic has hit large nodes such as Tokyo, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
