The Boeing 737 MAX returned to service in Europe when it completed its first commercial flight after nearly two years of grounding.
The TUI fly Belgium aircraft flew from Brussels to Malaga on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol). It was the first commercial flight of a Boeing 737 MAX in the continent.
These planes have not been able to fly since March 2019. The reason was two accidents, in which a total of 346 people died.
The main reason for the accident was faulty management software. Following an extensive analysis of the modifications, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) authorized the return of the Boeing 737 MAX to operations in Europe at the end of January.
At the end of 2020, airlines resumed commercial flights with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in the USA and Brazil.
The Czech airline SmartWings has stated that it will start flying this machine this month and that it would like to return all its 737 MAX aircraft to service by the summer.
The Icelandair Group plans to fly again with the Boeing 737 MAX during the spring.
