The Boeing 737 MAX made its first commercial flight in almost two years
A Boeing 737 MAX landed at the airport in the Brazilian city of Porto Allegre on Wednesday. It is the first commercial flight of this machine, which was grounded for almost two years after two fatal accidents.
The flight on the route Sao Paulo - Porto Allegre was performed by the largest air carrier in the country, the company Gol. The machines grounded last year after an investigation into two fatal accidents revealed design flaws.
The resumption of operations of the
Boeing 737 MAX was approved last month by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This was soon followed by the approval of the Brazilian authorities. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is examining Boeing's application for approval of Boeing 737 MAX flights. It should decide by the end of this year.
The Boeing 737 MAX began to be used in 2017. There were almost 400 of them in service. After the plane crashes in Indonesia and last year in
Ethiopia, which claimed a total of 346 lives, they had to stop using them.
Investigators pointed to the automated flight control system (MCAS), which pushed the nose of the aircraft downwards based on erroneous sensor data.
