The British Government Wants To Accelerate The Transition To Electromobility
According to media reports, the British government wants to accelerate the transition to electromobility.
Prime Minister
Boris Johnson is reportedly considering a ban on the sale of new diesel and petrol cars in the UK since 2030, the Financial Times (FT) reported, citing government and industry sources. The rules for hybrids could be a little less strict.
In February, Johnson announced that, as part of climate protection, new cars with diesel and petrol engines should stop being sold from 2035.
Previously, the year 2040 was mentioned as the latest date for a ban on the sale of cars with internal combustion engines.
However, critics have pointed out that
Britain would not have achieved its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 in this case. In addition, the government has high hopes for the production of electric cars in Britain.
The UK has said before it will spend as much as £1bn on an automotive transformation fund, but is yet to detail what will happen with the bulk of that money.
